DT
Design and Technology gives our Muschampions the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of designing and building. This helps nurture their innate creativity and problem solving skills as they attempt to build and construct a range of products in their different year groups. Children are given opportunities to experiment with, and investigate, ways of building and crafting using various different materials, children have time to evaluate and make changes to their designs and work to meet success criteria.
Aims
- To produce creative work, explore ideas and record their experiences
- Become fluent in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art and craft design techniques
- Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
- Know about great crafters and designers and understand historical and cultural influences on design.

D/T implementation:
To bring our curriculum intent to life, we implement an engaging and practical approach to teaching Design and Technology at Muschamp Primary School. Our curriculum is structured around several key components:
- Creative Projects: Students engage in hands-on projects that involve designing and building a variety of products. They work on individual and collaborative projects to explore their creativity and problem-solving abilities.
- Skill Development: We focus on skill development in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art and craft design techniques. Students learn through a combination of instruction, practice, and experimentation.
- Critical Thinking: We encourage students to evaluate and analyse their own work and the work of others, fostering the ability to discuss and critique creative projects using the language of art, craft, and design.
- Inspiration from the Masters: We introduce students to the work of great crafters and designers, helping them understand how historical and cultural factors have influenced design and craft throughout history.
- Safety and Sustainability: We prioritize safety and sustainability in all aspects of Design and Technology, ensuring that students not only create innovative products but also do so responsibly and ethically.
- Inclusivity and Creativity: We create a classroom environment that embraces diversity and encourages students to express themselves and their ideas freely, fostering a rich tapestry of creativity.
D/T impact:
The impact of our Design and Technology curriculum is assessed through various measures:
- Creative Competence: Our students will demonstrate improved creative skills and problem-solving abilities as they progress through the curriculum, evident in the quality and complexity of their projects.
- Fluency in Techniques: Students will showcase proficiency in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other design techniques, enabling them to confidently express their creative ideas.
- Critical Thinking: We aim for students to develop the ability to evaluate and analyse creative works, which will be reflected in their ability to articulate their thoughts and feedback using the language of art, craft, and design.
- Awareness of Design Influences: Our Muschampions will exhibit an understanding of the historical and cultural influences on design, enhancing their appreciation for the diversity and significance of design concepts.
- Responsible Creativity: We expect students to apply the principles of safety and sustainability to their projects, fostering a sense of social responsibility and ethical decision-making.
