Challenge Partners Report February 2025

We had another positive Challenge Partners and came out with lots of WWW (What went wells)

We are very proud of these comments made by our visiting team.

Pupils engage well with learning and, ultimately, achieve beyond national standards. Attendance at Muschamp is good.

Teachers have high expectations for all pupils, at all levels of ability. Relationships between staff and pupils are excellent leading to positive attitudes to learning and strong engagement.

Prior attainment is used to set ambitious targets, and regular assessment identifies areas where further teaching is required, resulting in pupils knowing more, remembering more and doing more.

Leaders ensure that identified school improvement targets are linked to professional development opportunities for all staff. Staff know that their professional development is a priority and that their contribution to school improvement is valued.

Nothing is left to chance in the development of writing at Muschamp. The progression of writing is clearly outlined and the expectations of writing at greater depth are well defined. A range of different genres are explored and linked to carefully selected, diverse texts.

Teachers have high expectations of pupils’ use of technical language in science. Modelling supports learners to use a range of scientific writing structures and they are confident to write like a scientist. During learning explorations in Year 1 and Year 3, prompts were used by pupils to support their use of correct scientific vocabulary when writing.

Questioning is used effectively to establish understanding, extend learning and build vocabulary.

Pupils across the school use a range of supportive and accessible resources within lessons to encourage them to become independent learners. Where supportive oracy frames are used, this enables pupils to order their thoughts and develop their explanations in discussion and oral rehearsal. In a Year 2 history lesson, pupils accurately recalled the events of the Great Fire of London with their learning partners and added additional information to their writing.

Muschamp is proud of its inclusive offer.  Early identification of need and rigorous tracking charts the progress of all groups, ensuring that no-one is left behind.
