Helsinki (Year 1)

Important information

 

PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Don't forget your yellow t-shirt, shorts/ tracksuit bottoms and trainers/ plimsolls on these days.

 

Home learning books come out every Friday.  Please make sure they are returned by Wednesday so they have time to be marked!

On Friday, we did the Mini Marsden March! We walked to Wrythe Green and back, it was great to see so many parents and carers come along and support us

On Friday, we learnt about the PANTS rule. We then designed our own pair of pants, and posed in them, whilst discussing the five PANTS rules!

Today, it was world book day! We dressed up as our favourite book character, and completed lots of book based activities!

This half term our topic is called Paws, Claws and Whiskers.

 

In Science, we will be learning about our animals.

 

In History, we will be learning about Charles Darwin.

 

In Geography we will be studying the North and South pole.

 

In Art, we will be investigating printing.

Yesterday, we experienced Victorian day! We had lots of different lessons, for example, drill and deportment. Whilst it was great fun, alot of the children told me they preferred our normal school days, because it was more fun! Thank you for making such a fanstatic effort with the costumes, the children looked fabulous.

Today we went to Bishoop Andrewes Church! We had lots of fun, and learnt lots of information about churches!

Yesterday, it was party day! We enjoyed party games, party food and a Christmas film before having more food and dancing at the disco! Thank you all for making such a fantastic effort with the children's clothes-they all looked so smart in their fantastic outfits :)

Here are some pictures of us enjoying the beginning of our Christmas celebrations-carol concerts, Christmas jumper day and a Christmas lunch. Next week, we've got lots more fun on the agenda!

Today, we celebrated the diversity of our school and class by all wearing different colours. This reinforced the message that we are all different, but we accept eachother for what we all are!

This half term our topic is called Winter Wonderland.

 

In Science, we will be learning about the seasons, light and conducting a scientific investigation!

 

In History, we will be learning about Guy Fawkes and Captain Robert Falcon Scott. We will then be thinking about how times have changed, and ordering different events on a timeline. 

 

In Geography we will be studying weather, linking to our science. We will then be thinking about some 'big questions,' including 'How can Antartica be a desert when it's the coldest place on Earth?'

 

In Computing, we will be making, filming and creating a simple cookery programme.

 

In Art, we will be investigating line.  We will learn about the different ways to make marks, using a range of mediums of varying tones.

Yesterday, we took part in a Roald Dahl workshop! We acted out the story of 'The Enormous Crocodile' and had lots of fun. The pictures show us mid action!

Yesterday, we went on our first trip of the school year! We walked down to Carshalton Ponds, looking for physical and human features on the way-we found lots of different examples! We then had a look at the war memorials before having a run around in Grove Park. We then caught the bus back to school. It was a fun but tiring morning for all!

In our first week of Yr1, we had lots of fun experimenting with the three primary colours-red, yellow and blue. The end product we created was a map of the local area, with the different colours showing different types of land use.

 

This half term our topic is called Family Album.

 

In Science, we will be learning about our bodies, naming body parts, learning about the senses and testing them.

 

In History, we will be learning about Ann Boleyn and her connection to Carshalton.  We will also be learning about WW2 and how life was different then.  We will be visiting the War Memorials in Carshalton.

 

In Geography we will be studying the local area as well as locating where in the UK we live.

 

In DT, we will be designing, making and evaluating photo frames.

 

In Art, we will be investigating colour.  We will learn about the primary and secondary colours and how to mix colours to make new colours. We will be studying the artist Piet Mondrian.
